Battlefield Chevy

Inversity worked with Bartzen + Ball Architects to design a new 17,000 – 18,000 SF automotive dealership for Battlefield Chevrolet in Culpeper, VA. The facility includes a showroom, general office space, customer lounge, sales areas, parts department, and restrooms. The dealership also includes a multi-bay service department and service drive lanes.

The entire facility is heated and cooled except for the service lanes which are heated only. Packaged rooftop units with gas fired heat exchanges were utilized throughout and the HVAC system that serves the service maintenance bay includes energy recovery due to the high outside air volumes required. The service drive lanes are provided with suspended gas fired infra-red heaters. Supply air is routed to ceiling diffusers throughout and return air utilizes an above ceiling return air plenum. Restrooms, locker rooms, electrical, air/oil room, janitor closets and similar type spaces requiring exhaust were provided with roof mounted exhaust fans. Non-conditioned spaces such as the electric room, water pumping room, and similar spaces are provided with suspended electric unit heaters. The HVAC system includes a series of stand-alone HVAC controls.

The Electrical service is 480-volt, 600 amp, 3-phase service with all panelboards having 25% spare capacity for future use at a minimum. Interior and Exterior Lighting systems were designed to meet the Illumination Engineering Society’s illumination level requirements, Chevrolet standards of design, and the Virginia Energy Conservation Code. Point by point lighting calculations were performed for all unique spaces to ensure illumination levels are adequate for the space being served. Chevrolet provided standards of design for light fixture types.
